I was playing around with shapes and color and came up with this very small painting. I like the use of color in this piece.

Here is a painting that measures 3.5 x 2.5." I created it using one of my favorite media, which is gouache paint, on 300 lb. Fabriano paper.
I like this painting alot. I don't know if others find it meaningful, though.

An Expression of My Mood Yesterday......

I painted it using gouache (opaque watercolor) on 300 lb. Fabriano paper.
It measures 10 x 8."

Small Organic Abstraction

I very much wanted to use earthtones in the rendition of this piece, which is 6" x 6" x .5." It was created with acrylic on canvas.

I created this drawing loosely based on an exquisite photograph. I asked for and received permission from the photographer to create this piece, which is only 5.5" x 4."

larger paintings of trees

My next challenge is to create larger paintings of trees.

I love to work on a small scale, but galleries like to exhibit larger work and I would like to start exhibiting my art in galleries again.

My paintings in acrylic on canvas are very time-consuming.

My artwork in gouache on paper is far less time-consuming and more spontaneous.
After jotting down these thoughts, I think it's probably best to continue to work in gouache on paper.

But, when I paint on a larger scale, it makes more sense to work with acrylic on canvas and attempt not to be too compulsive.

Goya's Last Works at the Frick Collection

A few days ago I had the tremendous pleasure of viewing "Goya's Last Works" at the Frick Collection in New York City.

What impressed me the most in this excellent exhibition were Goya's drawings in black crayon on paper that are extremely emotive.

Many of his drawing dealt with the themes of witchcraft and madness.

I also appreciated many of his portraits that were on view, including several self-portraits.

I created this painting tonight. I love the greens in this piece. In my opinion there is an Art Deco feel to this piece. It was created with Holbein gouache on 300 lb. Fabriano paper and measures 9.5 x 8 inches.

I am thinking about creating paintings/drawings of spiders

The shape of spiders is quite intriguing.
There are many possibilities for how to render them, via the use of color and form.

Perhaps I will challenge myself artistically and do some renditions of spiders.

If I create paintings of spiders I will post them here.

Photographs can be Inspirational

I like to spend time viewing photographs on a variety of subject matter.
I especially like to look at photographs of landscapes and phenomena in nature.

So many ideas and so little time

I have so many ideas for artwork that I would like to create.

I have my ongoing series of fantasy trees for which I constantly am bombarded with new ideas.

I have thought of a new direction in which to take my rendition of female nudes.

In addition, I have thoughts and ideas for abstract and non-objective art which I have explored insufficiently.

Color plays a very important role in my artwork.

Again, there is so much to create and not enough time........

Pink Tree Drawing on a Horizontal Plane

This is an abstract drawing of a pink tree that I created using acid-free pens on 100 lb. Strathmore paper. It is 5.5" x 8.5." This drawing is now sold.

the importance of recognition

It is vitally important for serious visual artists to attain recognition for their artwork.

Recognition could come in the form of sales of one's artwork.
It could also come in the form of praise from critics and curators.

Perhaps I will have more to say about "recognition" in the future!

Surreal Painting of a Tree

Here is my newest painting of a tree that was sold a couple of days ago. Someone loved it as much as I do. For me, working on my series of fantasy trees, is a joy and a purely creative experience.This painting is now sold to a woman who loves it and thinks it looks much better in real life than over the internet!

Newest painting of a Redhead

I completed this painting a couple of days ago. I mailed it out to the person who commissioned it this afternoon. I think it is much more vibrantly colorful in real life.

An exhibit of Odilon Redon's Art at MOMA

Friday, 1/20, I had the pleasure of viewing an exhibit of Redon's work at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

It was a fantastic exhibit!
I have always admired Redon's extremely unique vision.
Viewing his charcoal drawings and lithographs was especially interesting; these pieces are very eerie and strange and fantastical.

In this particular exhibit I found the works in black and white to be much stronger than the artwork in color.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed this exhibit immensely.

A day of gallery hopping in Chelsea, New York City

I had a very visually stimulating day today, as I visited about 20 art galleries in Chelsea.

I thoroughly enjoyed many of the artists' works that I saw.

I especially enjoyed viewing Deborah Butterfield's sculptures of horses, many of which are created from scrap metal.

I saw some fantastic realistic artwork as well as installation art and surrealistic portraits.

It was an energizing experience.
